John McCart was born in 1958. At the age of sixteen he was apprenticed to a cabinet maker. He then entered the ‘university of life’ when he travelled and lived in America for some time. Eventually John took up a place at York Street college of Art where he studied design. This was followed by his work as a commercial artist where he was employed to paint murals for clubs and restaurants all over the world. McCart claims that it was here that he really learned to draw and paint.
His explorations around the world have provided unlimited material and influenced his work significantly. He never ceases to be excited or challenged by the road of discovery on which he travels and his great versatility and imagination as an artist continues to enable him to describe with endearing honesty each personal experience.
